Visiting Assistant Professor Position at St. Mary’s College of Maryland. The Environmental Studies Program at St. Mary’s College of Maryland is hiring an outstanding instructor for a one-year, visiting assistant professor of environmental studies with social science emphasis to begin August 2023. This position is a sabbatical replacement. We seek scholars with a Ph.D. by time of hire in relevant fields spanning the social sciences whose expertise centers on intersectional environmentalisms and/or environmental justice. PhD position at the Institute for Climate, Energy & Disaster Solutions at the Australian National University (ANU). The PhD project will be part of an ICEDS-funded program that will examine the impacts and implications of carbon removals in Australian landscapes, e.g. through carbon farming projects, environmental plantings, landscape restoration, cultural burning, and/or other land-use change initiatives that seek to drawdown or avoid greenhouse gas emissions. Call for papers: Creating Change through Colonial institutions? Rights, Sovereignty, and Emerging Technologies in Global Environmental Governance. Panel for POLLEN 2023, June 27-29, 2023. In the time between our original submission and now, interests and availabilities have evolved, so we are looking for a couple of panelists to round out our panel below. This session aims to explore how mechanisms embedded in capitalist and colonial histories, namely rights, sovereignty, and technology, perpetuate socio-environmental harms and injustices in global environmental governance (GEG), and how these mechanisms have been mobilized to challenge those same systems, with topics including but not limited to: Human rights-based approaches in GEG; International environmental agreements as colonial projects; Indigenous social movement theories and strategies in GEG; Politics and policies of emerging environmental technologies and finance; Theories of rights, law, and sovereignty in GEG; Corporate capture and elite consolidation in global environmental institutions; Alternative forms, epistemologies, and practices of environmental governance. Call for panelists: We are sharing this call to panelists for the session Fictional Political Ecologies through audiovisual, stage and literary narratives which will take place as part of the IX International Conference on Critical Geographies (ICCG 2023), to be held in Ciudad de México from October 23rd to October 29th 2023. This session is an invitation to scholars, educators and artists who want to share their experiences (articles, stories, artistic creations) exploring the ground between written (realistic) fiction and political ecology and social/environmental justice. Green Transition Initiative (GTI) Forum on human-animal relations/ethics. The Forum reflects on humanity’s rapacious disregard for and commodification of our fellow creatures. Eileen Crist’s opening essay illuminates the historical, philosophical, and political dimensions, arguing that nurturing solidarity with (other) animals stands as a key moral and strategic imperative for a Great Transition.
