Get ready for Barcelona!
When will POLLEN 2026 be launched?
IT ALREADY HAS – get ready to come to Barcelona and join us! Panel Submissions are Currently Open (until July 31st)
The announcement is here. Or take a look at this page to find out how to do so and here to learn more about our rationale and purpose. This year the organisation is slightly different.
What’s the difference?
First, we are currently ONLY RECEIVING PANEL ideas (call for papers comes later). So, if you have a good idea for a panel, then send it in!
You might already know who you want your panel to be with, in which case you can mention the details in the proposal.
You might not know yet, but still have a good idea for a panel – well, in that case, just send us your idea is and who you consider might want to be part of your panel.
Are you interested in non-panel events?
Yes we are. During the Conference, you can pitch a film, an art showing, a city walk, a workshop, a roundtable, so long as it is some sort of collective activity. We are particularly interested in hearing about your ideas for excursions and engagements in and around the city. Use the same submission procedure as a panel to pitch us your idea.
How do I submit a panel /other activity?
At this link. Register to set up a conference account and then submit your proposal. Do this before July 31st!
But I don’t want to organise a panel, I just want to present paper
No problem. If that is you, then do nothing until the autumn. When the panels are announced you will be able to pitch your idea to one of the accepted panels.
And when can people with paper ideas do this?
As soon as the panels have been accepted (in the autumn) we will open the call for papers. If you already had papers planned as part of your panel, that is the time for these to be registered. Tell the colleagues in your panel to sign up as well.
If you do not already know which panel you want to join, and have a paper to submit, then have a look through all the possible panels where you might fit. Write to the panel organisers you want to present with and see if your work can be included.
Why are we doing it this way? Normally panels and papers are all submitted together.
This method has two advantages. First, it decentres the decision-making about who gets to take part. Instead of a small committee saying yes or no to papers, we have multiple panel leaders who take on that role. Power is shared. Second, it prevents the organisers going mad trying to cluster a gazillion different paper ideas into appropriate panels. This way you get to decide who you might be with.
Also, it’s more fun this way. Think of it as a way of meeting people who you do not yet know but who might be drawn to your work. Pitch your idea in more general terms to attract a broader set of people who might want to present at it. When the panels open to papers those people will be getting in touch.
But doesn’t that mean some people will not be able to come if their paper is not accepted in a panel?
We don’t know how many people want to come to Barcelona yet. But after the panel leads have made their decisions, we will also be checking rejected papers to see if some could, in fact, form a separate panel. And there is always the possibility of presenting your work in a poster session (which is what I shall be doing).
When will you know when this meeting will actually happen; ‘June’ is rather vague?
We can announce the dates in the autumn. We have to wait for the rooms to be allocated, and that depends on university exams.
And what about payment, registration, and scholarships?
All the payments will happen when papers are accepted (by January). We will have scholarships, which will mean either waiving registration fees or transport support, or both.
Any last bits of advice, who do we ask with further questions?
For all enquiries contact: pollen[at]nomadit.co.uk.
Please start getting these panels in – we will not be extending the submission deadlines (which is July 31s for panels). We are looking forward to welcoming you.
