The conference will be held at two different venues:

Facultat de Geografia i Historia, Universitat de Barcelona, Carrer de Montelegre, 6, Ciutat Vella, 08001 (29 June, 1 July, 2 July & 3 July)

Hotel Exe Campus, Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, Villa Universitaria Campus de la UAB, 08193 Cerdanyola del Vallès, Barcelona, Spain (30 June only)

Awareness of common scams

We have seen many conferences recently where malicious actors use bots to gather delegate names from the public programme and then scrape the internet for email addresses in order to send scams and phishing emails. Unfortunately, this is common place in recent times.
Please delete any such emails you receive and do not respond to them.

The conference organisers will not book accommodation for delegates or use any 3rd party to do so. All communication from the conference organisers will come from: pollen(at)nomadit.co.uk

student residences

Staying in a student residence is one of the cheapest options. Two places with rooms available at the time of publication are:

• Yugo Maria Oliveras [Location]

Yugo Maria is about 40 minutes from the UB conference venue (Mon, Wed-Fri), and 80 minutes from the UAB venue (Tuesday). Yugo Alba Viu is about 30 minutes walk from the UAB venue (Tuesday) and 90 mins from the UB venues (Mon, Wed-Fri)

Getting from Yugo Maria Oliveras to Facultat de Geografia i Història, UB:
Take the Metro red line L1 (direction: Fondo) from nearby station Hospital de Bellvitge to station Universitat, then walk 5min to venue.

Getting from Yugo Maria Oliveras to Hotel Exe Campus, UAB:
Take the Metro red line L1 (direction: Fondo) from nearby station Hospital de Bellvitge to station Plaça Catalunya, then change to FGC train system (not RENFE train system!). Take line S2 Sabadell Parc del Nord and stop at Bellaterra. Walk 8 min to venue.

• Yugo Alba Viu [Location]

Currently, Yugo Alba Viu is very cheap for accommodation near Barcelona. It is cheap because it is a newly completed student block which is looking for custom and it is closer to the UAB, but further from Barcelona city itself.

Before you book Yugo Alba Viu, please check how far away it is. Remember that the FGC and metro will stop running at 11pm during weekdays.

Getting from Yugo Alba Viu to Facultat de Geografia i Historia, UB:
Option 1: Walk (30 min) or take the bus line PA to Estació de Bellaterra FGC (here is a link to a timetable). Take FGC train line S2 to Barcelona Plaça Catalunya. Walk 5 min to venue.

Option 2: Walk 15 minutes to a bus stop on Road BP-1413. Take lines B7 or A4 to C. dels Safsareig ( this can take between 20 and 40 min, depending on traffic in Sant Cugat). Walk to Sant Cugat FGC train station. Take either line S1 or line S2 to Barcelona Plaça Catalunya. Walk 5min to venue.

Option 3: Renfe trains. IF they complete the current repairs on time, the R7 line will be working. We hope to provide more updates as things change.

outside of Barcelona

When it comes to choosing sites please note that, unfortunately, Barcelona is always a popular destination, the more so in the summer. This year we have the Tour de France to contend with. Please book accommodation early and be prepared to stay further out of town. Venues like St Cugat, Sabadell, Rubi and Terrassa. Or why not try camping sites and hotels on the different towns outside of the city?

Accommodation in Barcelona

Many accommodation options in Barcelona are in easy reach of the conference venue either on on foot, taxi or by public transport. We do recommend that you plan how you would get from your accommodation to the conference venues in advance, and allow a little extra time as the city will be busy.

Please also note that there is a tourist tax, applicable to overnight stays, for Barcelona with a lower rate in surrounding towns.

Sites such a Google Maps can help when planning journeys around Barcelona city and there are frequent busses operated by TMB that have many routes near to the Universitat de Barcelona

Searching for accommodation

Those looking for more affordable/alternative lodgings can use peer-reviewed travel advice or accommodation sites such as tripadvisor, Lonely Planet, Trivago, Agoda, Wotif.com

While there are many properties to rent, please be aware that this has become the bane of Barcelona and the source of much anti-tourism sentiment in the city. Hence the (plan to revoke the licence of 10,000 AirBnB properties). The main concern is with large companies that own hundreds of rental units, as these have the greatest impact on local residents.
If you can find places owned by individuals, these are less of a problem.

Hostels

Barcelona has a wide variety of hostels offering both dorms and rooms at very reasonable rates. These are easily found with a quick search on sites such as hostelworld.com
